Knockhill
Summer in Scotland is regularly, well wet and we experienced our fair share this weekend. Testing on Friday was good and I was third overall and felt we could do well if the conditions were right.
Come qualifying it was still dry and I was making good progress but unfortunatley failed to get the best out of my tyres and lined up 6th for both races, at Knockhill, a notoriously tight track its difficult to overtake and it was going to be a struggle. Both races were held on the Sunday in a change from the usual format so we were kept busy, well the mechanics were anyway.
Race one was held in wet conditions and I got a good start only to find that the first corner was littered with Clios - they were spinnng off everywhere. I duly found myself in second place after getting past Paul Rivett but then lost two places at the haripin.
Paul was slow out and I inadvertantly touched him as I had nowhere to go, which cost me a licence endorsement and after the inevitable safety car period we restarted. I was struggling a little and lost ground to Tom and Colbert and the gap was ebbing and flowing but I finished a reasonable third which did not displease me.
Race two and it was dryer but the track was very greasy, no first corner dramas this time and trying to make progress was very tricky, every time I got behind someone they would defend, we would both loose ground which would allow others to catch us up and join in the fun.
It seemed every time I made up one place I then lost two! It was pretty hairy all round the track as the kerbs were a no go area as they were too slippery and the hairpin was taking plenty of casualties from Clio's with locked up front wheels.
In fact I diced with Stephen Colbert, Mark Spellar, Ray MacDowel, Steven Hunter and Michael Doyle and managed to finish sixth with no damage - amazing!
